Welcome to our information site

Flowers in the front garden Not set up for ’one night stops’, our aim is to provide a peaceful, laid-back and comfortable atmosphere for you to relax, unwind and refresh your spirits. We are located in a quiet spot with glorious views, yet only a few minutes’ walk from Lostwithiel’s old town centre and riverside walks.

Back in 1981 we welcomed our first paying guest, a young engineer working on the construction of a new dam; He was told, "make yourself at home and help yourself to a cup of tea at any time".

That ethos has been maintained right up to the present time. View of the back garden from one of the rooms

Back in those days, there was only one bathroom and Wi-Fi wasn't even heard of but you will be pleased to know that we have, over the years, modernised our rooms and facilities to meet today’s’ ever higher expectations and, at the same time, keeping our prices in the 'Very Affordable' range.

  • UPSTAIRS

Our Bedrooms are immaculately clean, uncluttered and are equipped with flat screen TV, hairdryer and fresh linen, Standard Double and Twin bedded rooms are available; all have en-suite shower rooms.

(all are fitted with fire doors and smoke alarms)

For those who must stay in touch, Wi-Fi is available in all rooms.

  • DOWNSTAIRS

There is a country home atmosphere. Guests can come and go as they please, sit in the garden, make themselves a cup of tea or read a book on a log by the stream

Adapting to modern life, we no longer cook the traditional fried breakfasts. A selection of fresh fruit, yogurts and cereals are available on a ‘help yourself’ basis.

However; guests can also use the kitchen to ‘do their own thing’ if they so desire or bring a ‘take-away’ back in the evenings.

Hot, locally baked, crusty bread rolls provided daily (if you can get up in time). Hot and Cold Drinks are available at any time.

  • LOCATION

As you can see in our background watermark views, situated at the upper reaches of the tidal part of the river Fowey, Lostwithiel is a green and tranquil place. There are plenty of ancient buildings and antique shops to explore, woodland and riverside walks for gentle exercise, and numerous good places to eat in the evenings just a stroll away. Our local fish and chip shop is ‘The Best for miles’ and there are many good places to eat within strolling distance.

For the more energetic, most of Cornwall can be reached in less than an hours’ driving from here, but we are surrounded by glorious countryside with both walking and cycling paths through woods, beside the river or along the coastal paths. Some are easy and some will test your muscles but if you run out of ‘Puff’ or sprain an ankle, we can come and pick you up. If you feel like leaving your vehicle in our car park, there are regular train services to Penzance, St. Ives, Falmouth, Truro, and even to Looe from Lostwithiel Station, just five minutes, walk down the hill.

Many festivals and events are held twixt May and October so, If you have interests in music, gardens, antiques, steam railways and engines, boat trips or historical piles, please click on our ‘out and about’ button, at the top of the page, to discover Where, When and How.

Over the years, people from all over the world have discovered this to be an ideal little centre to explore Cornwall’s beautiful spring gardens, quaint little harbours, stunning coastal walks and the rugged granite tors and ancient monuments on Bodmin Moor; lots of them are still coming back for more.

"Muddy Boots are not a problem"

Please Note; if you wish to bring bicycles or canoes, we can store them safely while you are out doing other things.

The bedroom and en suite were spotless. The kettle went on as soon as we arrived and we were soon made to feel at home.

Brian the owner was most helpful with information on local eating and entertainment in what turned out to be a charming little town.. The breakfast was excellent and made a pleasant change from the Full English. A lovely clean house with a pleasant garden made for a comfortable stay.

A coincidence brought us to Pennwood Forge Guest house in 2006 when we remembered a recommendation by German friends. Since then we've stayed here 5 times and hope there will be several times more to come. The location is ideal for exploring Cornwall from North to South and from East to West. The town is very pretty with nice little shops and a romantice bridge. Returning to Penwood Forge Guest House in the evenings is like 'coming home'. We feel blissfully happy in the enchanting garden with an endless variety of colours and fragrances. The rooms are very clean and cosy. The sanitation facilities are state-of-the-art, TV and WiFi are available in all rooms. The pleasant and cheerful colours of the rooms and the friendly treatment by the host offer a nice distraction even if a cloudy sky in the morning predicts unstable weather. We love to enjoy a nice 'cuppa' on the garden bench and good laughs with friends of the house.

There is enough space in the house and in the garden to retreat and be on your own.

The ideal place to take deep breaths, relax and forget everything behind you.

     Full marks from us!

My boyfriend and I recently stayed at Penwood Forge for a week. What a lovely experience. The proprietar is a jovial chap called Brian who was very kind and welcoming, and had a wealth of knowledge about the area. The rooms were spotless and the location is very convenient for exploring the surrounding area. We used public transport during our trip and had no issues with getting around to places. I would highly recommend

This guest house is a delightful place. You are free to come and go as you please. The atmosphere is relaxed, there is a beautiful garden and grounds to enjoy and sit out in and relax. As previously mentioned there is definitely a feeling of "coming home" in the evening. The rooms are comfortable, with some spectacular views to be enjoyed from some of them. Everything is relaxed, a real 'home from home' while you explore the wonderful Cornish environment. So many places to visit, so easy to get to from Lostwithiel. Parking is easy at Penwood Forge. After two enjoiyable visits I look forward to returning again sometime
